I think "hate" is a little strong, but the "gentleman" you mention is definately NOT my favourite! ( i've probably more time for Myskina than Ronaldo since his cheating exploits at the World Cup. )
You probably haven't heard of my favourite team as they are not currently in the Premiership, but i follow the team from the place of my birth - The Foxes, Leicester City. |

i don't think is a little strong, but maybe you're right i don't like it that they want to have a lot of best players, and when footballers are in real they usually play worse than before... but it's only my opinion
yeah, i didn't heard about your fave club, but it's natural that you follow the team from your birth place, probably you haven't heard of lech poznan

The season is under-way BUT it already seems that it is going to be a long-suffering term for Foxes fans, langishing near the bottom of the division called the "Championship"; effectively the 2nd division of English football.
Cracking game the other week when Arsenal defeated Man Utd in their own back-yard! |

Poznan should be in Poland I guess... Byzkol is Polish so, that makes sense.
I like football, but not soccer (I like AFL - one of the Australian football's). But I prefer alot of other sports to any sort of football anyway. _________________ "Sta op als je voor Misa bent"! |

I'd love to talk about football, but unfortunately Leicester aren't playing any at the moment - yesterdays 1-4 thumping at home by Sheffield Wednesday is the Foxes 4th defeat on the trot! |

Celtic play FC Copenhagen away from home tonight, and if they win they will top their group. I say "If" because Celtic have seldom won away from home in Europe in recent years. But they are already through too the next stage. Still, a win would be nice.

Oh my, check this out. There are some crazy people out there who just don't quite know what to do with their money. And I know this is in US Dollars, but one quarter of a billion of them is like nuts to pay an athelete. From The Sporting News:
"January 12, 2007
Big bucks bend Beckham to L.A.
David Beckham's new contract with the Los Angeles Galaxy is big. (Audience shouts: How big is it?) $250 million big. Baseball's owners have spent the winter handing out gigantic free-agent contracts, but even they had to gasp when this contract was announced. Oh, we've seen a $250 million contract before, but Pay-Rod's contract was spread out over 10 years. Great Britain's most famous pretty boy will be earning his dough in five years. Beckham now has $250 million reasons to live in America.
Will Beckham be able to bend soccer into America's hearts and minds? Don't count on it, says SN's Benson Taylor. Remember the Pele experiment in the late 1970s? Yeah, that really brought soccer to national prominence. But why would an aging legend leave the continent where he can't walk five feet without getting mobbed by paparazzi for the continent where paparazzi won't walk five feet to follow a soccer player? Is it to help his wife, Victoria Beckham (you know her as Posh Spice), further her career? To get a better deal on hair products? To extend his career by playing against lesser competition? After all, moving from European powerhouse Real Madrid to the MLS is akin to leaving the Yankees for a team in Class A." |

Sorry about that, don't know why the message posted twice. One would think I would have learned how to do a post by now.....

I didn't think there was that much money in American Soccer. | Joel, you are right on! That is exactly why this seems so outrageous. If a match draws 20,000 fans that is a big crowd here. And most matches have less attendance than that. The television package is very small, here in the Dallas area, the team is not even on local tv. And for two years they played at our highschool football team's stadium here in Southlake after they left the Cotton Bowl and before their new field was built. And even with expanded bleachers it could not have held 10-12,000 people. In contrast, our little town of about 20,000 people typically has an attendance of 8 - 9,000 on Friday nights for our highschool football team games. Of course, we are once again Texas State Champs in highschool football for 2006 and have won the State title 4 of the last 5 years... and the year we lost was in the title game where we lost to Katy by one point when our kicker missed an easy field goal. Our record over those 5 years - 79 wins and 1 loss (by that one point). |
